Nevermind the file hosting site is jam packed with ads....  rats!

Also, it downoaded an unknown .apk (android app installer) instead of selected file. yikes! Now I have some checking to do.

The other option I have is to use my GoogleDrive account to source my files. but GD renames the uploads to a 30 digit or so alphanumeric string for the filename. zip files at least retain the .zip extension.   .asm files get their ectension changed by GD to .bin.  Not good for AV scanners.

Moral of the story is BEWARE of File-upload.net.  Infested with ads proclaiming your system is infected, while downloaded suspicious files, without your express consent.

 download test

This works, albeit very slowly.  MS  bloat. From my OneDrive cloud account.

Downloads with proper filename and extension.

note it shows an editable preview of the file. Don't think I like that feature. Also the method to download is not straightforward. You have to click on the downward arrow on the toolbar.

Obviously not intended for general purpose file sharing.

Not too many sites that I trust these days. The internet has become a horrible place unfortunately.

I probably only frequent one or two sites a day now.

Yeah, that's for sure. Used to be file hosting sites were everywhere - mostly good ones, few ads. But I suppose the ad revenue wasn't keeping up with site costs, etc. Not to.mention possible illegal usage, govt shutdowns, lawsuits and what not.(hosting pirated software, etc)

Theres always hope for a better way.

The magic rule is you get what you pay for. Free site are funded by you through the sh*tty advertising, scams, misleading ads and the like and the old rule applies, you get nothing for nothing. Although it is not bank balance shattering, I pay for a commercial quality site on a Unix server that I run myself and it means this forum is secure and I can plonk anything I like on the site.

upload test >  DropBox .com

This is so we don't clutter up the forums upload area (and hutch's HD) with too many images. hutch-- has expressed his concern, and I am responding.
Yup, dropbox seems like it will work out okay.   :t  I think this is the approved method for posting pix these days.

Do you have to be running Firefox to use it?

hello sir zedd151;
I was running Firefox on that; but not sure if is mandatory. I'm thinking this because if I'm not wrong Firefox use gtk+ as user interface and webkit as a web motor; so I suppose that can be done in chrome, vivaldi, ... (same web motor).
Firefox have open source code but I don't check. Inside gtk+ reference I have see a function to capture screen (gdk_get_default_root_window, gdk_drawable_get_size, gdk_window_get_origin, gdk_pixbuf_get_from_drawable (I think this function is based on bitblt on windows side, or pixelcopy, forgot now), gdk_pixbuf_save).
