1.25 TB of ram

I have a System with 1.25 TB of ram the Mother board sees it , lshw see's it , but only 1.0 TB is useable, Is there a kernel Parameter I need to recognize more memory ?
I did not know that computers has that much capacity.

What apps could use that?

I think that some sever motherboards support 1 Tera  Bytes of RAM, it's probably useful for that

64 bit 3d Cg apps, might be enough to contain 3d photorealistic world the size of skyrim
Server running webshop which contains for example lots of images,independent of its hires images of real clothes or other things would benefit greatly
Wonder if hutch gonna build such computer?

Certainly not going to hit the shelves of big box stores any time soon. Sounds more like a custom build for very heavy number crunching, encryption/decryption, etc., or perhaps video rendering. Sounds like something that NASA or NSA would need. A bit much for most users.


Funny thing is, that someone, somewhere would still complain that they still need more memory than that. And a ginormous amount of hard drive space to go along with it. 


Edit to add... quantum computing could be another application that needs that much??? Ultra fast DNA sequencing? Ok, now I'm going off the rails.

But my own 3d models are lowpoly
And used to make tiny asm programs you can get away with older computer with less ram

Most of the Xeon E5 ... v3 series CPUs will address up to 768 megbytes of memory if you have the right server boards and ECC memory so I imagine with much later Xeon CPUs (gold and silver) and the right boards and memory, doing over 1tb of memory is possible but you sure would not want to pay for it.

Think of the joys of a rack mounted server roaring away while handling some massive number of network connections with CPU capacity to spare and making so much racket that you would end up in the loonie bin at you local "Funny Farm" (where life is beautiful all the time).

There is good reason why these things get stuck into an air conditioned room well away from users. Users like Amazon come to mind.

Guess what, my rusty old Core i5 addresses 4096 megbytes of memory in 32-bit mode

I expect such mobo having much more than quad channel memory and support fastest memory stick DDR x ,x being newest memory generation
Hutch when server farm investment goes wrong is why they need to sack 10k employees to keep afford loan rent + afford huge electricity bill here in europe ?
Because webshops must run 24/7 ,while ordinary highend computer user can restrict usage to hours at home and avoid games that runs cpu,gpu,hd at max power consumption

A bit out of my allowable price range. 
In theory with that much memory, wouldn't need a hard drive? (For home user)


With creative techniques, would that even be possible? (OS plus all other contents of C: drive loaded into RAM for instance)
