Yes, I was that lucky.

I completely exorcised z80 and started from scratch on x86. Even now, the hardest thing I ever programmed with a HP 11c calculator, used to use it for calculating the geometry of expansion chambers on 2 stroke motorbikes.

68k 8mhz powered sega genesis vs snes used 65816 3.5mhz =16bit 6502 With annoying bank switching
@nocforme
If you have old .com code, publish it in 16bit dos forum
I got later ti calculator, which support z80 asm programs, cable to pc together with pc cross Development tools
Ti calculator has evolved version of z80 with higher clock freqency, bank switching allows for few meg memory with several "apps",most of it flash memory that keep memory without batteries
I never had z80 based computer before and got nowhere on my z80 asm attempts also because need different mindset compared to x86 with simd

Hi,

But I am glad that you did, it gave me a different perspective of the problem and a possibly faster solution.

Good, that was, sort of, the idea.  And if you run any speed tests,
it would be nice to see the results.  (Go for it.)

Cheers,

Steve N.

I will try to do a similar way in 32 bit land. If I get it up and running, I will surely post it here.

This thread had taken on a life of its own ...

That reminds me of how I miss my old Amiga 500. The little one, not even the full-sized one. A really advanced machine for its time, especially considering the price.

I found out later that a lot of these (500s) were still in use at TV studios for video production well into the 1990s. (Of course, I also remember when I worked for a computer co. in the '90s that a lot of our customers were still using PDP-8s for EDL use (video edit lists).

Babylon 5 was an OK SciFi series but it was not for its trailblazing graphics ( :joking:), it actually had a plot instead of just eye candy.

Maybe a bit offtopic, byt my vote for:

That's alright, this thread has taken on a life of it's own. Meandering here and there.      It might meander so far, that one day, it comes around full-circle to continue on from whence it started.
