Cpu fan cooler regulation

When I started using opensuse as an o.s., I noticed that my cpu cooler fan ran faster at times.

Never happened under Windows.

I tried speedfan, but my m.b. is not supported.

Has anyone gotten their fan to have it's speed regulated ?

i am guessing the fan increases speed because CPU usage is up
not familiar with that OS, but maybe something is set up wrong
or maybe there are tricks to reduce CPU usage
