Feeling the age of my backbone at the moment.
« on: October 12, 2017, 10:35:08 PM »
I had a rare opportunity with the house next door doing an internal change that yielded somewhere over 500 hand made bricks that exactly match the ones my own house is made from. The two houses were built at the same time from the same batch of bricks which were made by hand in wooden moulds and fired in a bonfire that would have been no more than 100 metres from where the houses were being built.

Got going at the ungodly hour of 7AM this morning moving them out of next door and was carrying bricks for some hours piling them up against my back fence. Cleaned and moved about 100 of them around to the front of the house where I could find some room for some of them but by this afternoon my backbone started to tell me that it was less than up to the task. Ended up as stiff as a board and will have to finish it off tomorrow. Only have a few left inside of next door and then I can paddle at a more leisurely rate to clean the old lime mortar off them, find somewhere to put them all then set up enough room to fully clean them using a Gurney (high pressure water cleaner) so they end up looking like new ones.

The reason to bother doing this is they have magnificent colours and when laid properly look like the original brickwork that was built at the back of the house before it was painted with the old style lime based paints.

Hi,

It does indeed sound like an excellent and rare opportunity.  Have
fun and put them to good use.  I am always for recycling hard to
find items.

Regards,

Steve

Do something for the local economy. Your specialisation is brains, not muscles ;)

I think you do need to pull up a deck chair next to the pile of bricks, a small fridge stocked with appropriate beverage, then with you cell phone, phone this company to do the building for you.. :t
