I think the folks from the east coast of south America get much the same weather that we get in OZ at about the same latitude. The big plant actually comes from southern Brasil and in OZ we call them a philadendron and its OK up to about 40-42C but over that the high temperature burns the fronds. With the old fella in his 80s, working is what is keeping him alive, a case of use it or lose it. The alternative is retirement, vegetation and an early death.

Alex,
time for Copacabana and a few lovely ladies as company. I have met a few from over your way and they are a ton of fun. We are lucky living in the southern half of the world, less pollution, less hassles and charming people.

Hell, I suppose you have to be German to endure that fleshy cold. I do not even want to imagine what it would be like in Russia :icon_eek:
It's abnormally warm this winter.
Russia is so large that there are areas with subtropical climate here.

Every year is different, here this year is drier than normal, it recently started raining. However, I imagine that normally it has to be quite cold up there

That singer was super popular in early 1990s ... but if you want to know REAL Russia I'd recommend you to listen to this archetypal song from archetypal movie:

"Russkaya troyka" - it's an archetypal image. In this song it symbolizes three winter months - December, January and February but there's another more deep layer of semantics when it refers to Russia herself.

We have discovered to Yuri Shatunov from a recommendation in this forum to Sharmanka. He becomes the sing of our (this) summer listened often to him . My wife and I like his songs a lot. Her and my son likes Sharmanka too, so much that even my son already can sing it with the singer :t

The bad thing is that without subtitles we do not understand anything, although we have already learned some words in Russian: summer, thanks

As you say "there's no bad without good".  Quick search gave me this -  Let’s Sing Russian New Year Songs

Here's the text:
Code: [Select]
“Three white horses”

The rivers got frozen and the ground got frozen,

And the houses huddled a little,

It is in the city where it’s warm and wet,

It is in the city where it’s warm and wet,

But in the countryside it is winter, winter, winter.

And three white horses are taking me away

Into the snowy and resonant distance,

Three white horses,

December, January and February!

The winter opened its snowy embrace,

And everything sleeps until spring here.

Only firtrees in triangular dresses,

Only firtrees in triangular dresses

Are running, running and running towards me.

The rivers got frozen and the ground got frozen,

But I’m not afraid of cold,

It is in the city where I was sad,

It is in the city where I was sad,

But in the countryside I laugh and laugh and laugh.

You could always invest in a pair of skis and a snow jacket.  :P If you have some money to waste, a snowmobile would be a ton of fun.

Hi,

And snow in Florida now. that is weird

Here in Northwest Florida, we seem to get a hard freeze every
ten to fifteen years.  This is by far the worst I have seen since
(approx.) 1969 though.  Lasting (over?) a week instead of just
a day or two.  Phooey, grumble, complain, and so forth.

Regards,

Steve N.
