Zen story...
« on: May 28, 2018, 02:41:04 PM »
 Don't know if you are familiarized with zen. When i was younger i meet a karate master (karate shotokan) and i was able to read a book that he had: "Nothing sacred".

One of the stories i remember as humorous is this one:

Quote
ZEN DIALOGUE

Zen teachers train their young disciples to express themselves. Two Zen temples each had a protected child. One of the children, going to look for vegetables every morning, was on the road with the other.

"Where are you going?" The one asked.

"I go where my feet take me," the other replied.

This response baffled the first boy who was looking for help where his teacher. "Tomorrow morning," the teacher said, "when you meet the other boy, ask him the same thing. He will give you the same answer, and then ask him: Suppose you have no feet, then where are you going?. That will fix it. "

The boys met again the next morning.

"Where are you going?" The first boy asked.

"I'm going where the wind blows," the other replied.

This confused the boy again, who told his defeat to his teacher.

"Ask him where he will go if there is no wind," the teacher suggested.

The next day the boys met for the third time.

"Where are you going?" The first boy asked.

"I go to the market to buy vegetables," the other replied.

I try make things simple, or see things in simplicity.. otherwise it's a waste of time.

First of all, would I be interested in where the 2nd boy is going.. No!
"I go where my feet take me".. It's actually where your brain takes you.. smoke another one.

Would I ask him a second time after the first answer... Damn No!
Sooo... if for some unkown known, I actually were to ask him again... (I really find this difficult)
"I'm going where the wind blows"

At this time I be calling myself an absolute stupid f..k for asking such a stupid question .. again!!

When if I had the insight and patience, I would know he 'might' be coming back and I'd see that he had vegetables with him.
He'd been to the Veggy market and bought food.

Sorry, Zen is leading you up the garden path of zero thinking or insight  ;)

I think (fellow intellectual South African  :t) the idea is
that old teachers get into very interesting spats. BUT
the main thingy is that BS could mean about anything....
I did some Ninjitsu and never expierenced any Zen things.
Just hardcore = kill or be killed. The end of the above story
I believe is - Live life as you see it ? (and as others want to
see it) OR the end of the argument is never near.....

The wife Draakie says: "If I am ZEN, why would I care what
others do, my student will get the best tutalige anyhow"

Well ..Sire BS it is, and I'd know as I've done it all
Been around the block many times... and seen them all.

Anyway the best bit is when the kids try the same BS... I can come up with concrete indisputable answers.
It floors them and puts them back on the path of normality.

I'm not a zen practitioner...I just found this story funny. I think that this dialogues are exactly as it because each one of this kids knew that they where "studying" the zen with a different master, so they were compiting  betweeen them.

As far as i know when you are a zen master (or similar) you don't experiment big emotions or you don't get by surprise...I think that's why this story was "recorded" through time...

Ha ha, I have not heard the term beatnick for at least 40 years. San Francisco would have been a fun place back in the late 60s, early 70s and a lot of good music came from there, the US hippy generation and flower power.

I vaguely remember Lenny Bruce but its too long ago.

Me too, although I remember its spelling is beatnik without the "c". Just looked it up, and WP says it's a 1950s thing - I thought the term was coined after the Beatles, but apparently it's the other way round.

I have a CD called "Summer of Love". I'm sure you will recognise some titles...

The caricature of beatnik was Bob Denver in the 50s tv series Gilligan's Island. I remember watching that as a kid.
