Just curious, do you have the character "Z" in Afrikaans?
Spelling and grammar are a bit different but I think 80% of the language is equal to Dutch.
It's not difficult to read and understand for Dutch people.

A couple of "Z" words:
Zebra = donkey\ horse animal = initial real word
Zulu = native of KwaZulu Natal = think Durban = semi real word
Zimbabwe  :biggrin: = corrupt Neighbour & Us aswell
Zuid Afrika  8) just a joke
Zen same as zen = another intrinsic joke

Real words (actual):
zoem = gons = noise
zero = null = sero = 0
zoster = gordelroos = Hepatitis B

Honestly few words have a 'z'. I thought you
would like the serious ones starting with Z.

More interesting are these(K-F might appreciate) :
poespas = chaos
poeskop = bald person (skin head)
klinknaaldbroek  = blue jeans
seilskoene = sneakers
woefkardoes = doggy bag

Thanks Hutch.. you make me feel better now  :biggrin:

Imagine..
A full on gun battle going on in uptown Sydney.. and you accidentally walk into the scene.
Aussies vs the immigrants from the north ..bang bang bang..
Then one shouts.. Hey you I'll blast you like a roo, mate..
Not used to the accent you say .. what!
Then Bruce says to his mates... God!! another South African, mates..
and they all shout .. Get out the way you idiot, you're spoiling our aim...

We are connected, not only with programming languages.  :t

Afrikaans is an old Dutch dialect from the boers ( Dutch farmers ) I think.
Swedish sounds like a mix of German, English, Dutch and Frysk.
but africaan accent is more stronger than Dutch,think German accent
very skilled Dutch people migrated here and improved many things,among things an Owen that made excellent steel, that was lot better than Before
when I was in Swedish course,we had history of languages we read about different times we imported from different languages,so that explains above
Hansa dominated the Baltic sea in medevial ages,so we imported german,we imported some latin,this is where my name come from Magnus=big,also looked up kanji for big
french,german again from Before WWII,American English after germany was defeated,and computer age we imported almost computer related Words to Swedish,mail became mejl etc

the most confusing Word people on the internet has experienced from me is,about the same school as highschool :gymnasie,but for English the Word describes a Place where you perform sport
and there is also idrottsgymnasium,idrott=sport, where you learn to become the next Zlatan...

Gymnasie, if I'm not mistaken is used for Training School which is any school which can have a special 'sport' training program, whereas highschool is Hoerskool in Afrikaans, which is your standard school education from Grade-8 to 12 (Std 6 - 10).

Our military basic training was done at a gymnasium.

The cANCer voters (approx 60%) support the dismantling (disassembly  ;) ) of the 'colonialist system' (especially education) that gave the country a highly competitive edge in the world market. This has severe repercussions for everyone in SA as it makes the country similar to Zimbabwe.. From Bread Basket to Basket Case and expecting hand-outs from the rest of the world.
