What happened to Aussie TV
« on: February 15, 2020, 10:01:17 AM »
Been getting into a show called Doctor Doctor lately, well pretty much binge watching it, my question is what happened to TV in Australia ? I mean I at least expected to see some hot Sheila's in bikinis on the beach or some form of Pufnstuf but I actually like this show. I mean seriously, this is a hockey commercial down under (being Canadian I pay attention to hockey stuff)

Hi Edgar,

Its hard to keep up on Australian television, its so bad you don't bother to watch it. Show a pretty girl in a bikini and the Twitterati start screaming about sexism, show bushfire footage and you get preached at about the coming end of the world, when the heavy rain put the fires out recently, it was the terrible flood footage etc etc ....

Our current conservative government has kept cutting the funding to our local ABC and its rarely worth watching as they cannot afford to buy anything. Best value for me when I am brain dead from over work is Netflix and paid for Youtube.

Hope you are doing OK, I gather you got rid of Harper at the last election  and got the younger Trudeau which did not seem to be that much better. I have occasionally picked up some Canadian television and I remember an actress who was so good looking, she was almost porcelain perfect.

You are fortunate, not every country has Monica Bellucci as a national treasure.

Sorry to get into a foreign conversation. These issues seem to be universal. Don't remember already when it was the last time I attended news in the traditional mass media. I fear that if one insists on continuing watching traditional television, it is inevitable to increase its stupidity gradually.

Regarding Trump, I have recently seen some illuminating economic data: creation of a female employment registry, historically low unemployment among black and latins, reopening of worker factories, less inequality. If there were ten million people in the Obama administration who received the "food stamps", now there are seven million who have left the program because the unemployment decreased. Fend for itself. If this is so, not bad.

The culminating moment of Italian politics was with Cicciolina. No doubt about this.  :eusa_naughty:

As bad as you may seem, we may change them whenever you want

Back to Doctor Doctor (TV series), I am amazed that there are no characters named Bruce or Sheila in the show. I thought almost everybody down under was named either Bruce or Sheila, I always thought Steve was an aberration lol.

Like any culture, it takes a bit of practice to get the swing of it. Here is a 1970s "New age sensitive male" song that demonstrates what a sheila was used for and in the second half of the track, the BHP boot.

The musician was Bob Hudson and the track is the Newcastle Song.

I eventually remembered the name of the Canadian actress, it was Sarah Gadon and some years ago I watched a series about the US/Canadian border where she played the part of the head honcho's daughter. Seen he in a few other movies since. Seems that half of the talent working in Hollywood come from north of the border.
