Sometimes, UPX can be useful to reduce the size of the executables :

VT   size
7     151040  Original RichMasm.exe
5     088576  Upx
18   082432  KKrunchy
29   075264  KKrunchy2

KKrunchy2 has a non-zero load time, though: about 0.7 seconds

And then there is the AV brigade... first column above is the VirusTotal score for the three compressors. Noteworthy that, although we are talking about the same identical code after decompression, the upx'ed version scores better. Isn't that fun? And, of course, the dear scanners have huge problems with more sophisticated code as produced by KKrunchy version 2

Hi Jochen,

Did you try Jotti's malware scan?

Yes, 1/15 for original and upx'ed versions, 7/15 for KKrunchy version 2. There are some lousy dumb heuristic scanners around
