I don't use it in my source code, because that would be bewildering. It's a matter of taste, I think. But I've strong doubts that the Campus is the right place for your post.

The ascii art thing has been around a while...The animated ones a bit less,but I remember some from around 1995 I think.

BBS's used to use them a lot back in the old days.
