New notebook and Windows 11

hutch--

With your notebook, I imagine the HDD is a 2.5 inch one and you could probably get a disk the same physical size that is a lot bigger. I had a quick look at a supplier and 1 and 2 TB HDDs are not all that expensive. A new much bigger HDD would extend the life of your old notebook. By its age I doubt it would support NVMe drives, I got caught with that one myself. You could use a SATA SSD and a 1 gig one is not all that expensive either.

The thing that wouold really help is if you can put more memory into it, 8 gig is borderline where if you can get either a bigger one or add another module, the whole box would run heaps better.

Q: Is the hard drive 256gb or 1Tb?

 If no other option is available, we have to read the page:
QuoteDisco primario di sistema SSD da 256 GB
disco HDD secondario di Backup DA 1TB integrato

Yes indeed, but can I trust them?

The same pc is also available here at a better price (40€ less), from the same vendor but bypassing Amazon

Re touchpad buttons, I found this on Quora:
QuoteHow difficult was it to get used to a touchpad without true right/left click buttons?
Hate them, hate them, hate them. And oh yeah, I HATE THEM!! New touch pads have superseded buttons and if you put your finger on too hard or quick, it is perceived as a mouse click. PITA!!!
QuoteWhy have laptop designers moved away from touchpad buttons?
Because everyone apparently loves Apple and wants to look like Apple. So everyone took away my ability to click and hold middle mouse button (surprisingly used in many graphic programs), or press and hold both left and right buttons (surprisingly essential in my primary graphic program)

Hi jj2007,

 I was also indignant when they removed CDROM and left only SSD disks in the latest laptops, I connected a large external drive and was happy with that

I solved the DVD writer problem on my current box that does not have one, I bought an LG brand USB plugin one that works fine, cost about $25.00 AUD. Only quirk I found was I left it plugged in and next day the box would not switch on. I unplugged it and it started normally.

15" laptop have little room for DVD, so better option is an external DVD.

@LiaoMi: Price 2520 Euro :badgrin:

I had a look at the Lenovo models at Amazon.it - and got a surprise: three quarters are "reconditioned" or "renewed", whatever that means. Apparently they get leased by big companies like banks, and at the end of the leasing period are being thrown on the market. If you are lucky, you get a fast machine at 300 bucks. If you are less lucky, you are stuck with a "filthy" machine (according to one client review).

@Nidud: Cute, but my garden is too small

That's right, today only premium laptops have buttons  I also have buttons on my work laptop , manufacturers understand the convenience of buttons, but decided to make it cheaper.
