Title: Video card fan
Post by: Magnum on June 06, 2015, 04:20:06 PM

I have a video card that has a fan.

I have not seen the fan running.

Does it only run when the card is in heavy use ?

Might depend on the card. Some like MSI twin frozer GTX970 will use passive cooling and kick in the fan when temps go up.

I have a VGA NVIDIA GEFORCE 7300GS 256-P2-N437-LR 256MB PCI-EXPRESS PCIe VIDEO CARD DVI card.

googling some reviews etc of the card it does appear to have a cooler block and a fan. The fan should be moving if your gpu is using any intensive video game or similar program that utilizes the gpu. If its not moving, then it probably is a fault with the fan, some articles suggested peeling sticker off and putting some oil onto the bearing, others suggest buying replacement fans. Id probably opt for buying a new gpu if the card is an old one. Depends on what you use it for, but you could easily get a basic to mid range card for 100-200 euro/sterling/other currency.

I took the GPU fan off, cleaned off the dust and re-installed it.

Now it is working.

The fan for the video card is making a racket and spins at different speeds.

Do you see replacement fans for it ?
