Read about this OS under development on Source Forge.
It seems to be patterned after Windows XP.
Has anyone tried it??
If so would you care to expound a bit here Please.
I couldn't tell from the article what stage the development
is in.
Seems to be a better choice than the Linux mess.
Microsoft sure needs some competition.
Hi,
Last time I tried ReactOS is 2010, I think.
I could run Pelles C on it.
It's always stated that "is still under heavy development (alpha stage) and is not ready for everyday use.".
Please give it a try.
And yes, it would be nice if MS have a competitor.
Hi,
I have not tried it. But I think there was some mention of it
on the newsgroup alt.os.development a while back.
Regards,
Steve N.
Thanks for responding Guys.
Anta40 - have you tried it lately?
That was 3 years ago. Surely some progress has been made.
Hope it's not like Linux which has to many chiefs and not enough Indians.
I tried it when had P-II, on later models of CPU it's crashed - so be accurate.
I tried one of the older versions of ReactOS in VirtualBox.
I think it may be very useful for educational purposes as the example of open source Windows-like (Windows-compatible) operating system.
I will not be much surprised if you'll find one of ReactOS's main developers - Alex Ionescu - here on this site.
Found more info on ReactOS.
They are working on FAT. Why? Why not go straight to NTFS?
Tried to do a live run of ReactOS from a cd and it didn't work.

Maybe my bios is not configured correctly. I have trouble with
the bios on this crappy Pavilion. Don't think they have software
for the USB yet.
I'll check them out again in 2015. Right now I feel ReactOS is worthless.

FAT is simpler and better.

Probably too harsh. I very recently installed ReactOS on VirtualBox and it worked on first shot. I also installed Firefox on ReactOS and it works - so it definitely has some value. Hint: DO NOT use any VirtualBox images with preinstalled ReactOS - instead create a VirtualBox VM and then go thru the "normal" installation process for ReactOS.

I'm curious why :icon_confused:
Hi,
I think there are fewer problems with patent and trademark
protection with FAT.
