Title: SDHC memory cards
Post by: Magnum on October 14, 2013, 06:46:17 AM
I bought a new camera for a class and am looking for a memory card.

Its a Nikon 3100.

My computer is a hp 6730b and it says it reads SDHC memory cards.

I am confused as to what will work.

There are different classes of cards, some with adaptors.

Nikon list of approved cards did not show specifics other than approved brands and their sizes.

Can someone help decipher this ?

Later I fill find out what cable I need to hook the camera up with the laptop and transfer pics and movies directly.

I have a regular HDMI / USB cable, but it needs a mini-HDMI cable.

From my large collection of 35 mm items(inc. Minolta camera), I can still use the case and lens cleaning kit.

I don't think my Vivatar flash will "adapt over" but it ate up batteries to get 60 ft. of range. :-)

Thanks.

Hi Magnum,

I have a Canon 550D DSLR and I often transfer images to my desktop PC. Your Nikon 3100 should be packed with a kind of mini-USB cable to transfer pictures to your computer. I prefer using this cable instead of removing the memory card from the camera. Removing and re-inserting often the card can hurt the slot which has a mechanical eject button.

I have a cable to connect camera to HDTV.

My computer inputs are USB and a SD / SDHD card reader.

Computer has no HDMI connections.

I will check another cable that came with the camera and see if it's what I need.

They have different types of SDHC.

I will buy both types and return what does not work.

I did find an "itty bitty" 4 Gb Micro SDHC card that I used for an older cell phone.
