Title: Win32 help file in CHM format
Post by: jj2007 on May 08, 2015, 03:20:25 PM
For Win7+ users who can't open *.hlp files: Mike Lobanovsky has converted the old Win32.hlp to chm format, available for download here. (http://www.oxygenbasic.org/forum/index.php?topic=1337.msg13811#msg13811)

Here is Mike's announcement:
QuoteDon't know if you're aware of this thread (http://www.oxygenbasic.org/forum/index.php?topic=1337.msg13811#msg13811) on the OxygenBasic forum?

I'm feeling I owe something to MASM32 for having gotten a copy of the old Win32.hlp file from there. It's been my deskbook for so many years.

I guess you're a member there. Perhaps you could spread the word and give them the link? I'm certain there are many people who moved onto more modern platforms and can't use the old file any more. They could find this new .CHM version very handy in their new environment.

The attachments on the O2 forum aren't permanent and are deleted automatically in about 12 weeks as of the date of uploading. Here is also the link to a similar post on the FBSL forum (http://www.fbsl.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3036#p10591). Post attachments are permanent there and will be available for as long as the site is up (so far it was, for the past 14 years).

TIA

Hi,

Where is a copy of Win32.hlp available?  Windows 2000 can't
read the CHM format.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Jochen,

And I have read that document before...  Probably more than
once...  Built in blinders?  Thanks again.

Regards,

Steve N.

Hope he didn't put too much work into this, the WinHelp installers for modern Windows are on Microsoft's download site (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/search/Results.aspx?q=WinHlp32.exe&form=DLC)

I guess Mike did put some work in this, but my F1 key points to Win32.hlp, too. Good find, though, I am surprised they still offer it for download, even for Win 8.1 8)
