Title: Windows updates
Post by: shankle on June 17, 2015, 12:48:30 AM
Now I have to be very careful of what updates I install. They are graciously preparing us
for the disastrous Windows 10 debacle.
I want none of it.
Long live Windows 7.
I have enjoyed having my chain jerked by Microsoft for the last 30 years :(

So far Windows 10 is looking pretty good to me.  I'll be more than happy to upgrade my Windows 7 machines.  Goodbye horribly slow shutdowns and random seizeups.  Windows 8/8.1 also fixes those problems, but the UI is horrible.  Win10 looks much more reasonable.

I confess Win7 64 Ultimate has been very reliable, it is on its 1st install and it still works perfectly. The auto-updates have a few annoying characteristics, something you were used to using suddenly disappears and is replaced by a crappy alternative. I used to keep XP SP3 in a Microsoft VM so I could access some of the things that don't run on Win7 but they deleted it and replaced it with a crappy alternative so now I use a VNC version and run an XP box to get the tech data I require which is a pain in that I have to run 2 computers. Having local technical data is a far better alternative than endlessly having to wade through MSDN to find something.

Think of it as a nuclear plant. It might run fine for years, but one day you got a Chernobyl.

Same with the forced updates. Everything is going to be fine until you get one of those, and is not theory, they have done and more than likely will mess one of their updates.

Hi Magnum,

There is an introduction section written in English in the same page. The download and documentation pages are in English.

Hello Magnum,

Version 9.2.1 and the preceding ones are supporting Windows XP. You can find those versions in the download section :

Hi,

Thanks Vortex, I will try updating XP the next time I go to my
Mom's place.  I am trying to restore a crashed system there.

Steve N.

Hi,

Well it runs, downloads, and verifies a whole bunch of files.
But it does not install any updates to Windows XP.

Regards,

Steve

Hello Steve,

To install the updates, you must run the executable named UpdateInstaller.exe located in the client folder.

Hi,

Thank you.  That did work.  Updated nicely.  And turned on
some other things as well.  Again, thank you for the link to a
useful product and for your assistance.

Regards,

Steve N.
