Title: MasmBasic Installation
Post by: clamicun on February 15, 2019, 06:53:47 AM
Hello jj, hope you are well,
I installed the latest version of MasmBasic ... My Windows10 64bit Windows Defender (forgot to deactivate that during installation) detected  "Trojan:Win32/Occamy.C". in RichMasm.exe.
Chapeau. I know it's bull but what sentence in your sourcecode could it be ?
Have a good one

Hi Michael,

See Avast false positive (http://masm32.com/board/index.php?topic=94.msg83212#msg83212). There is really no precise reason why certain programs trigger a warning, except the most obvious reason: heuristic scanners are dumb.

RichMasm.exe has 81,920 bytes. There is not enough room for malware in the exe... I build it from the source every time when I put a new installer online. It even has a manifest and a version control block, but that doesn't impress the heuristic scanners any more. It is UPX'ed to respect the 512kB limit of the Forum - very suspicious, of course!

I also hope you are doing well.

Take care,
Jochen
