I thought one of the great features of the Old MASM Forum (now, near death) was all the fantastic threads posted by imaginative assembly programmers.
HUTCH -- Do you think it would be a good idea to re-post some of the all-time great threads from the Old MASM Forum here at the New MASM Forum ??
...As an example,...CPU Identification Code (Alex, Sept. 2010) (http://www.movsd.com/board/index.php?topic=14754.0)
...And,...Rewritten CPUID Algo for Testing Instruction Sets (Hutch, May 2010) (http://www.movsd.com/board/index.php?topic=13894.0)
...And,...CPUID Test Piece (Hutch, April 2010) (http://www.movsd.com/board/index.php?topic=13837.45)
...And,...Another CPU ID Program (Dave, Jan. 2010) (http://www.movsd.com/board/index.php?topic=13044.0)
...And,...Quick CPU info based on CPUID (Jochen, Feb. 2009) (http://www.movsd.com/board/index.php?topic=10848.0)

Another CPUID Program - i have that one backed up

there are still a few others i want to do

If you guys are interested in this stuff, just post it in the appropriate forum. All I ask is you don't fill the forum full of junk.
-
HUTCH,
OK. No more JUNK !!! This is the new me,...I'm evolving,...and, I'm serious.
My thinking was just to re-post some of the really useful information from the OLD MASM Forum.
The CPUID instruction is unique to assembly language,...and, is much more reliable than any other technique I've seen for correctly determining processor capabilities.

ALEX,
Yeah,...I was somewhat limited in terms of time. I'm logged in at a public library in an incredibly small town in California,...and, the damn thing automatically terminates the connection every half hour.
But,...the point of my original post was that many great Old MASM Threads are now lost in some weird parallel universe.
The CPUID instruction is a classic that can only be accessed from an Assembly Language compiled component.
I've altered the original post to include your routines.

i used to live in "an incredibly small town" - not too far from California, either
you have heard of Parker Az - well - i lived in a town about 30 mi east called Bouse
when you entered town, there was a sign that read:
"Bouse Arizona"
"Home of 187 friendly people and one asshole"
that was after you left the town of Hope
as you left, a sign said "You are beyond Hope"
-
DAVE !!!
The town I live in now is maybe a couple of thousand people,...and, an equivalent population of livestock.
...I'd swear everyone here is in the Federal Witness Protection Program,...
I have this incredible view of the Crest of the Sierra Nevada. Elevation in the valley is about 4,000 feet,...and many of the Sierran peaks are 14,000 feet. I do alot of hiking around,...and, have leg muscles resembling those of a Tyrannosaurus Rex,...
-
as you can see, Bouse has grown since i lived there
and - you can see where they altered the sign, too - lol
the trailer in the background is the VFW hall - just as you enter town
(http://azfoo.net/places/ca/rice/pics/005_020_BouseAZ.jpg)
what you see in the picture - rocks and dirt, mainly - we had acres of it - lol
-
Baltoro, that message was just kidding
Thanks that you have included the link into the list :t
