Title: Getting old or over worked or something...
Post by: Raistlin on April 17, 2021, 07:01:19 AM
Hail my awesome friends and enemies, 😊
Have been working 3x times harder at lecturing than anticipated
since the start of you know what. Missing you guys and gals more
than I can say. The wife (draakie) just reminded me of what you
guys have meant to me and her over the years. I cannot say thank you
enough to that. Please my heartfelt appreciation. Degrees mean nothing
if you are not passionate or cannot inspire passion in others. I live by
that and mention you (you know whom) in my lectures. Besafe my friends
and be vigilant - the code must go on.

Don't worry, getting old is absolutely normal

Take it easy, and if you feel overworked, do some assembly programming to chill out. Greetings to you two

Hi Rudi,

Good to hear you are still with us, even if over worked.

welcome back. :greenclp:
When you focus on other things, we are lonely.
The most important thing is you're OK while the COVID-19 has been filled with everywhere.

You guys are the best. But you knew that already.
I would not have been me without you.
Suffice it to say, your lessons to me live
on in those I teach everyday. From jj2007 I learnt
humility and rigor, from HSE, Gunther & Vortex I learnt godlike does exist,
from Siekmanski & six_L that optimization is never far away or
the math too difficult (you rock). TouEnMasm is someone I truely
envy for shear determination in doing something completely selfless
that will surely last into the ages. Daydreamer... you know if you are in SA my door and newly re-pimped man-cave is yours (but not permanently).😈

Covid Sux = big time.
Add then new generation kids (19 to 27) wanting
to do degrees in Bsc Application Development or
Engineering equivalent (some very needy). Add then I am lecturing
across all 3 years of such degrees.  Add then commercial private
interest college becoming full fledged private University.
Add then, things I say Yes too, without thought (honours students)
then add 8 to 14 hour lectures per day without end, because
they employed a newbie to schedule such, without knowledge of
actual assessment schedule. Then add other lecturers  (1 so far)
going off sick due to you know what; and me as substitute,.....
Then you might understand my topic instance. Add then I havent
seen my man cave in weeks or ASM Programming for that
matter. Yes I complain too much...

Sounds like you are having a ton of fun there Rudi, the only occupation I know of that has that type of workload is new interns working in a hospital to get their hours up. All bad things come to an end, just make sure you last long enough to get there. Say HI to your better half and remember you can always come back with more creative genius when its all over.

Covid Sux = big time.
Funny enough, I (we) have benefitted from the scam in a big way ($$$ and otherwise).
I put this all down to timing, this time it's 'accidental' good timing.

I hear you.. having worked in such scenarios.

I'm fortunate enough to have landed in a good position that involves student lab equip work.
I'm also involved with top-notch research and it's associated departments.

No worries on this side - You should look at furthering your experience world-wide.
Unis are very short of real people...

Apply for every job - Nothing ventured, Nothing gained.
He/She who dares ..wins.

I just packed my bags and went... sorted everything out later.
It all works out, and people worldwide are for the most part, very helpfull.
BTW - I'm 60+.. (Phuck it!!  )

As I became older.  I just focus on the things I can change and ignore the rest. Way happier as a result.

This world does not deserve to be saved. So don't bother trying.

I knew you were only a young fella Van. RE : Uni degrees, its becoming more the case that most are useless as they will not yield any form of employment. The world needs skilled people, tradesmen, people who actually know how to do something useful, not some abstract bullsh*t that has no use in the world.

The "yuppification" of society has produced a generation that cannot do up a nut and bolt but they CAN look it up in their mobile phone. One thing you learn if you own tools is NEVER loan them to a technical illiterate as they are garranteed to PHUK them for you.

An old fashioned approach is if you are going to do something, do it well, make it the best you can do and you have done something that most cannot do, not these sloppy lazy bastards that bumble along doing the bare minimum and expect to get paid for it.

Hello,

This world does not deserve to be saved. So don't bother trying.

The nature on our planet is existing since long time before the appareance of the first human so the world deserves to be saved.

Not all the people are exactly in the same side. It's just that some people dare the fatal conceit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fatal_Conceit) to dominate all over the world.

I find interesting the movie Noah. Many times you have to find what things tell between lines. It's not a religion movie, but it is the first time that I find someone exposes one idea about the different human being over the world: one that devastates and consumes everything in its path devoid of morality. The other is also not devoid of human weaknesses.

Without humans, extinction would be more random and more fair than with humans decide hunt predators like wolf's,because they are harmful to their agriculture, hunt other wild animals for sport and meat, less important than their tame cows,sheep's... So oops we hunted wild boars to extinction

No!!!!.
Not only your kids.
The intention is to save everyone. All persons that understand that a sin is worth repenting.
Intention is to save all.

The wrong remains wrong even if everyone does.
The right remains the right even if no one does.

I think we may have a slight play on words here, one addresses making the world fit for kids to live in, the other is to save your soul, they are not quite the same thing.

Update: still stuck in proverbial hell. Wish I could do what I want to do. Actually do my 3d printer upgrades I promised myself I would do 1.5 years back = dual extruder, 32-bit board, capricorn tubing, stainless steel print head, auto bed levelling. Then finish my hobby electronics lab, mount the hot air station, focus (the insert 720p camera and mechanical zoom together) the full bench microscope. Make my own liquid flux. Actually start using my pi & raspberry pi's  (pi 3b+, pi 4 8gb, nanopc t4; 2x pi nano's) for something. Then actually creating the esp32 camera array I envisioned with lazer trip wires and motion sensing. Then create my first self made circuit board from scratch that reads 3 phase voltage in real time. Then my own take on a dual optical laser, high resolution 3d scanner. I have all the parts and plans, (flawed as it and what it may be, would it be the fun if there wasn't discoverable flaws?) I have a childish naive nature afterall.
Suffice it to say the latest challenge is something I would not mention erstwhile, it may rip the soul, one of my many modules taught is that which consumes my life essence: MEAN stack development = no human should ever be subjected to this evil abomination

Sounds like you are having a ton of fun, 3d printer sounds like it could be useful. I have not gone that route yet as I have not seen a need for one yet but I could be tempted.

Hey Rudi,

I'm busy with this at the moment and can send it your way to play with (you can have it manufactured down there) when it's finished.
I'm making it to replace a lot of scientific equipment electronics in our labs, etc

It's a multipurpose board based on the Intel Max10 FPGA.

- General IO controller with fast and slow lanes
- 4x LVDS lanes for data throughput
- Stackable/Rackable up to 256 cards in an array, Or more if you want.
- Has FPGA/Soft processor/Hard DSP (144x 18bits per chip) capability.

@K_F - yes thanks- was going to actually go old school with voltage per phase conversion and clamps off the DB board for amperage. 😢 you need to come visit SA again. Our brains are less because you left.
@LioMI: that was Daydreamers instigation. I might have a thought of an AI that might eventually add value to something  - but (being a female partition) should be valued and appreciated first. Thus theory = not real yet.

Eish brother - harsh. Anyhow did I mention Harsh ?
I really understand 😨.  Just wanted to waylay my own
stuff. The Draakie and me are looking at exit points.
My newly 15 yr old is 1.96 meters with size 13 uk shoe.
Any country were there is clothing and shoes is welcome
to me at present.  😠  Did I mention food does not last

No point as we've spent a few mil on the kids overseas education and flying stuff to get them into the overseas market.
The african market is dead (in comparison) and it'll be a waste in both $$$ and career moves.

Did I mention food does not last

Tell me about it... and the food bill goes throught the roof.

Just had an old person brain fart. Where is my math genius peers to
run this idiotic thing by?  Siekmanski, Daydreamer, rrr, yes hutch you aint
too bad either  at this stuff and Gunther should have an opinion.
Sorry if I left you out. Mind is racing at the idea. I am so going to get hate email. Plus beer intake at an all time high.
Anyhow.. here is the idea. Create a neural net that takes existing theory of
gravity and modified gravity and dark matter then (deep learning net type +
oppose it to the observable as input)  = always create the solution  in assembly for the obvious efficiency and accuracy (goes without saying) - reasons then get an answer.
This time actually explaining how the AI construct got to the answer.
Why ? It solves 2 real academic issues,  blackbox answer without explained
result resulting in more papers explaining (not) why that specific answer cannot possibly be. Then perhaps an actual theory of gravity would be nice.

In someway is exactly where we are. But solution created "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy" and there is not enough imagination to explain experimentally what they are, just because they don't exist is not excuse

AI can create a more complex solution, and explanation...  meanwhile, perhaps Dark Beer could be same thing that Black Beer, or is other dimension Pilsen?

Later: If you use AI you can end up with a Multi Strings Theory

On actual science... thinking I see a Phd. LOL
A little of Leonard Susskind, Brian Keating, Perimeter Institute talks and good dosis of Sabine Hossenfelder, and you don't need a PhD to question everybody

I applied the scheme you are thinking, but using a genetic algorithm. Because the algorithm found arbitrary solutions I knowed there was some more fundamented solution. Not a problem at "Universal" scale but that worked.

Aha now I know why we went to so. Much effort making reverse string algo,to use if we got. String theory backwards

When radio was new, they thought it was impossible for radio waves travelling in vacuum,so they imagined there existed some ether media in space, and newer theory is dark matter, dark energy might not be so new
Rudi, that theory reminds me of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy supercomputers find out the answer to life, now might be the days we have technology to build AI supercomputer that finds that answer  :greenclp:

Started watching MIT open course ware for computer science series. Just for the hell of it. Grabbing teaching tips & to-avoids and laughing when the lecturer gets the content wrong. Overwhelmingly they do get it right - wouldnt be MIT if they did I guess. Might as well try to put myself in the student's shoes listening to the presenter. This makes me feel younger, so it then doesn't hurt as much as doing it myself daily. Don't know if that makes any sense. LOL. Anyhow have great day all.
