Maybe I have to study the code some more, to see if they somehow can create a full sized file before copying the content.  Maybe by creating the file, then seeking to the last BYTE, and writing a 0, then seeking to the front and starting the copy. Hard to follow the CPP code, especially with the unreadable "commentary".

SetFilePointer and SetEndOfFile maybe?

Also, the though, Dave, maybe the slowdown while copying caused by Explorer files list in a window of a destination? Did you try to close the window of a folder where you targeted files to? I.e., when there are much files copied, Explorer gets more memory to save the listview where the files are displayed, as well as it constantly updates the information about files presented in the window. When there are much files, Explorer may probably take much resources for that target (memory loading and disk requests).

Alex,

I don't think that that is the reason. The same sized files run executed in about 3.5 hours with 35 MBS transfers, it was the variable sized files copy that ran slowly with 16 MBS transfers, and this was with the same boot, the same ports, the same drives, the same displays.

Dave.

yes - the free version works nicely

Vortex

UniExtract can extract the contents of Puran tools. Some of the applications can be made portable.

Hi nidud,

thank you for uploading the files and sources. By the way, it occurs another false positive generated by Avira.

The Big XP Defragmenter Test

JJ,

Thank you very much for the very interesting test documentation. All I can say is WOW! Someone sure put a lot of work into that test.

Dave.

Does it give any specific message?

I use JWLINK so maybe that is the problem?
If so, this file should also give an error

no, keymap.exe doesn't generate virus alarm. Strange.

Hi nidud,

dz.exe doesn't lead to an alert. But I think it's the silly AV.
