I found out what has precipitated my "challenge" for a about a decade.

I was rear ended 5 times before they had air bags.

One happened in my yellow Pinto station wagon.

I was on my way to a Donna Summer concert. :-)

as i recall many rear-ended pintos exploded
so - on the bright side, you're still here   :t

Both the Pinto and Donna Summer were good things.

When the thermostat failed, my father who taught mechanics for Ford, showed me
how to pull an engine, replace the cylinder rings, restore the valve surfaces, and put in 3 thousandth oversize pistons in a re-bored long block.

The car had a little more get up and go. :-)
