What tools do you recomend to periodically synchronize two directories between two computers over the internet?

Does Windows include this capability on its own? If so, how?

Windows allow shared directories since a long time.Windows allow to share a directory with an URL.
Verify in the file explorer that you have access at the properties of the directory you want to share.
Choose the shared page and see which options he allow to you.

I basically have a remote desktop which I wanted to sync once in a while. The directory have multiple gigabytes, so  downloading and then checking if they changed is out of the question.

Anyway. I ended using rsync for windows.

True, I should have included that in the description.

another option mught be the fileshare sites, like 4shared
they have the ability to store your files, and sync them with a local folder
