Ofcourse, there is also 'Blender', which I was rather surprised to find a number of people in the Clothing industry use.

I have friends who do serious Animations in both 2D & 3D, it also allows you to create video output and perhaps may be a better option for your work in Creation and Output but does have quite a Vertical learning curve, ... for the 3D and Animation newbie but may be more accessible to yourself with your previous experience etc

It is a truly awesome and extremely capable program.

My best* programs are not graphical at all, no GUI or even a console window.
They silently do their job, then exit. Not very exciting.   My Desktop backup utility for instance. It is actually my project backup utility, since I generally keep my current project under development on my desktop. It is date and time stamped and saved to my "Backups" drive. It works flawlessly and I use it every day when working on my projects.

* the term 'best' is highly subjective by the way...
One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Free ?  Well..you can try Vdub or even ffmpeg to join the videos. But, if you want something more specific, the best and easier to work with is Sony Vegas (But, its not free)

Zedd I have animations with two versions, bigger video and smaller gif version for avatar size,my suggestion is show animation of sudoku followed by animation of 4x4
Stewart actually been away several years from masm32, invested both in 3d software and network of single core computers sharing animation workload
My favourite 3d modeller became hexagon 2.5

Try the VSDC free video editor. Free but still full-featured (you have to pay extra for a few things like being able to use hardware acceleration, but otherwise has more than you need). Lotsa features.
32-bit code and Windows 7 foreva!
