Heh; this reminds me of another joke I heard when I visited Nicaragua (in 1988):

Daniel Ortega is on a flight to Moscow with his host, Mikhail Gorbachev. As they approach the Moscow airfield, Ortega looks out the window and exclaims to his seatmate, "Look, Mikhail! Everyone's lined up waiting for us on the ground! They're all looking up at us with binoculars!"

Gorbachev leans over to look out the window, then grunts to Ortega, "Aaah. No; those are vodka bottles."

(Shows the odd love-hate relationship between the Sandinistas and the Soviets back then.)
