I wish them luck.

A nature preserve near me has two bison.

The preserve is 2500 acres.

During a presentation, I learned that it is estimated that North America had about 60 million bison at one time.

Take care,

Nature reserves are the only possibility in EU or USA to preserve
some species from extinction.
That's sad from my point of view, but I don't see many alternatives.
There are only two days a year when you can't do anything: one is called yesterday, the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do and, above all, live.

Hi Andy,

that's good news.  :t

You have to know the facts before you can distort them.

I remember a few years ago a brown bear came back to germany (bavarian wood) from czech republic.
The hunters in germany were seeking for a reason to kill him.
So they stated that he has killed some innocent sheeps of the farmers and ... bang.
Of course it was a lie that the bear ripped the animals.
IIRC, the "BILD" news papers forced the lie.

In my company I have a colleague who is a hunter from bavaria.
I talked about it to him and he told me how horny the hunters were to kill the (innocent) bear.

Let's hope the best for the bisons, wolfes and other wild animals who came or may come back to germany.

Cheers

Well, there aren't that many anymore but they are now far from rare here (around 500,00 in the wild plus a lot on ranches). Can't see how the natives ate them for so long, pretty dry and flavorless in my opinion though I do know quite a few people who love bison meat. Pretty dangerous animal though, lots of attacks by bison every year, they actually injure more people every year than bears in Yellowstone mostly idiots who think they're as tame as cows.

Probably the same people who feed wild bears.

Many other private herds have boosted the buffalo's overall population over the years as well. While the present herds, numbering about 200,000 buffalo in all, are not as large as the great herds that once ranged the North American continent, they are large enough to ensure the continued well-being of the American buffalo for generations to come.
