Hi
From https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-removes-fat32-partition-size-limit-in-windows-11/

QuoteMicrosoft removed today an arbitrary 32GB size limit for FAT32 partitions in the latest Windows 11 Canary build, now allowing for a maximum size of 2TB.

QuoteHowever, it's important to note that the GUI-based Windows disk formatting tool will still have the same artificial 32GB size limit for FAT32 file systems.

Does anyone actually use the FAT32 file system anymore? Personally I see no advantage in using it.

According to MS, the system partition of UEFI/GPT drives must be formatted with FAT32 :

System partition

The device must contain a system partition. On GPT drives, this is known as the EFI System Partition, or the ESP. This partition is usually stored on the primary hard drive. The device boots to this partition.

The minimum size of this partition is 200 MB, and must be formatted using the FAT32 file format.

Hi
FAT32 is widely used and is still the standard for small devices such as IoT.

UEFI, GPT, IoT...
Alphabet soup!   between those and Windows 11 more things I'll never have a need for. My lifespan is finite.

I was thinking, FAT32 ... what's next, "will they bring back floppies next?"

As long as Windows 7 and NTFS still does the job for me, I'm all good. I just won't live long enough to really need much more than that.

Don't worry, the zombie apocalypse will occur far before that ...
Assembly language programming should be fun. That's why I do it.

It's used for UEFI and also things like PlayStation updates via USB (It can only read FAT32). There's other uses as said above also.

another strange MS "upgrade"
Microsoft is enabling BitLocker device encryption by default on Windows 11

Like I say, Windows 7 foreva!
Let all those other poor suckers suffer the "improvements" and "security upgrades" and "nifty new features" of anything newer than that; I'll be happily oblivious of them, probably for the rest of my life.

Well, sure, if you're offline, no need for antivirus. If you're online, however ...

I have an old, old Macbook that I use only for viewing movies, mostly on pirate sites. Antivirus (AVG) is essential, as I get multiple virus warnings just about anytime you try to do anything on these sites (adjust volume, go to full-screen mode, etc.). I still don't understand what the purpose of such sites is: nobody except someone like me, who has the patience to put up with all that bullshit just to view a movie, is going to stay there for more than 5 seconds after they're hit with one stupid, irrelevant, obviously spamming pop-up after another ...

These sites, BTW, have just about every movie ever made. Amazing inventory.
