you're using a 32-bit DIB with 20 colors ?

Hi,

I tend to AND the iteration value with 0FH to limit the number
of colors to 16.  The default VGA palette in Mode 13H graphics
is not too good for the Mandelbrot colors.

Regards,

Steve

the 128 color (80 color ?) version is better Jochen

it's difficult to maneuver with the arrow keys - i have to wait for all previous steps to be rendered
also - when i zoom, the image seems to align on the left edge
so, it's zoom a little, step a little, zoom a little, step a little to get someplace
takes forever
if the zoom maintained center-alignment, it wouldn't be as bad

but, when i do get in there, it's a better result than the previous 16-color image

Centered zoom is indeed nice. Remember that for "fine tuning", you need Shift arrow left/right/up/down.

The latest version is 32 colours. You can change that in line 3, but make sure you use multiples of 2. There is a tradeoff between speed and detail, of course.

FalseColors.inc

Jochen,

I use the system palette, which has 20 entries. Higher values have no influence afaiks...

Here is one with 128 colours.

that image looks fine. That's what we can expect.

You have to know the facts before you can distort them.

Hi TWell,

there are a lot of interesting areas. You can use Fractint to check that out.
