when you raise children, you have to give them a sense of moral direction, of course
that may mean sending them to a church you don't even believe in - lol
you have to educate them - send them to school, of course
teaching them chess will give them a handle on certain aspects of life that aren't covered in church or school
besides the obvious strategy and thought processes, it can teach them:
always have a plan/plan ahead - even a bad plan can be better than no plan at all
actions have consequences - it's like Newton's law extended to everyday life
self-confidence - choose a direction and go with it - no matter the outcome, you did what looked right
learn from your mistakes - you will learn much more from losing a game than winning one
