O'Reilly is....  Irish.  (I am too-no dig)

Sorry for the blab.  It is just plain nuts here in the US now.  We are really fractured.

It's like pod people are everywhere.  What happened to the normals?

Thats easily solved, just turn OFF the TV. I don't have one in the house and don't miss it. I can watch a bit of online TV which is on demand and a few of the commercial channels are now streaming a bit but most of it is just crap anyway. If you want news, read it on the Internet, preferrably in another country.

Hutch,
You seem always to have rational comments.  To say "not watch TV" may be the best ever.  My wife & I have not watched "actual" TV since we retired from our DISH satellite TV dealership (ironic, huh?) in 2008.  Any reference I make to TV is literally that of an outsider trying to be relevant.  Here's something--nearly all of the TV we do watch is either Australian or UK.  I probably don't need to say how, but let's say there are no commercials and we watch them the next day.  To be fair, we don't get (understand?) the comedy at all--but many of the other dramas and movies are so enjoyable we have literally switched our preference entirely.  The US has some very good actors, but it seems they all live in France now.

I actually have no idea whatsover what goes on at FOX.

Holy cow!  My next comment is #50.  No longer a "new" member.

Hi satpro,

It's very hard to accept or believe when you program in assembly and live by logic.  Or... you're just a regular person and you don't watch FOX News.

Really? I'm watching CNN or BBC world service (nothing else in my cable TV).

You have to know the facts before you can distort them.

> To be fair, we don't get (understand?) the comedy at all--but many of the other dramas and movies are so enjoyable we have literally switched our preference entirely.

Our humour in OZ is similar to the UK and we get most of their's but our own can often be good if a little crass to outsiders. Our ABC shows a fair bit of BBC drama and some of it is very good but the supply seems to be running out of puff at the moment. When I am brain dead I wash the detritus out by watching movies from the Video store down the road but most of that has turned to crap as well. I own a bookshelf of DVDs but once I have seen a movie I can remember it for the next 30 years so I generally don't get to watch them again.

Just every so often someone here produces something worth watching, I am into documentaries more than drama but torrain based documentaries appeal to my liking for interesting places. If I ever get around to travelling, it will be to places I want to see, the Grand Canyon, China, some of Russia, Canadian Rockies and especially Alaska (in the summer). I can talk to people anywhere and Sydney is a good place as far as lifestyle.

I have ambitions of travelling to the other end of the electorate of Sydney (Lord Howe Island) as its a truly stunning place, just have to end up with a few more bucks in front and pick the right time of year when there are no so many people there.

I watch news on TV(CNN,MSNBC) and I troll online to get deeper news. The thing I have noticed some VERY important news never shows up on TV. TV news is after all to entertain not really to inform. Online I can scan many different sources and sort through the facts and find what is going on below the public news. You do have to view everything with some intelligent reflection to find what is actually happening because there is a LOT of spin going on. But today most people don't really want to know what is going on,they don't want to think about anything other than whats happening with their favorite tv show. Those shows are their reality above actual real life.

most "news" broadcasts are heavily biased
aired TV - especially so
the owners of the network tend to push their political agenda onto the employees

same is true on the internet - you just get a better variety of bias

as for Tony Blair - i think he did what he felt was best for his country
at the time, the economy in England was suffering
the oil deal with BP helped ease that

his motives were, at least, in the right place
if you want to put someone on trial......

I may not agree as to cause and motivation with some, but I can't justify what Bush did regardless. As far as I'm concerned the WMD was clearly an excuse to implement other goals. How certain Bush and ilk may or may not have been about WMD does not change the fact that the agenda was in fact a lie. Which, in my book, is inexcusable.
