Intel has finally released new microcode updates to address the Spectre Variant 2 flaw in the older chips that triggered its across-the-board halt on early fixes for the vulnerability.

Following last week's release of reworked microcode updates for Skylake, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake chips, Intel has released corresponding updates for its older Broadwell and Haswell chips.

I didn't know that they can "update" micro-code.

That's why its called micro code, it can be plonked into any hardware that is designed for that purpose.

As some article say, updating microcode is a more convenient (or better) way of fixing flaws and other issues in the microprocessors. And it has some years now working like that. Don't remember if i readed in some of the links you posted or in other page... :idea:

Spectre is also some villian organization, so logically the cure should be named James Bond
