Hi!

I'm an RPG programmer (AS/400 < iSeries < IBM i) for almost 20 years.
Always wanted to learn assembly. Guess that time has come...
I don't have a "superior" studying background on IT. Did study physics for 4 years but didn't graduate.

I just like to have a deeper understanding of the things that I enjoy and I hope that this forum will help with that. Maybe someday I'll give my own contribution

You will do well here, very few asm programmers are IT graduates and the IT taught at most unis is not good enough to write assembler code.

there are lots of tutorials ichelion others and examples thats helpful and if you get stuck,just ask here and you get quick help from experienced asm programmers
I recommend you get debugger,ollydbg you can singlestep code while watch what happens inside registers to better understand how cpu,well it mostly helped me understand fpu code,that used fp registers worked together with fpu stack and how to correct my code to point to the right registers

here we have experience on write all kinds of code in assembly,1k messagebox,fullfledged 8k windows exe,SSE,avx,64bit,directx,cuda,opengl,opencl.....
not restricted to special use of asm

Hi dau, everybody, This is my second post and I'm with you dau on learning assy. I've had to code in it on occasion on 68HC11, PowerPC, ARM as I write mostly hardware level boot code. Assembler has always been intriguing to me. I first downloaded the Masm32, after finding it on the web, around 2005. I started writing an app in it, but it consumed too much of my time from family and job where I do mostly C/C++. I rarely, almost never, post on boards, but I feel it is time to give back. So welcome to you!
