Is Kaspersky AV spyware?
« on: March 23, 2021, 08:48:36 PM »
From Quora (Richard Maxwell, May 2019):
Quote
Israeli Intelligence found Russian Blueprints all over Kaspersky Antivirus - is it truly compromised, and what is the best Antivirus to use now?

Are you talking about this? Kaspersky bans and allegations of Russian government ties - Wikipedia

Also: Who's Afraid of Kaspersky?

After after poking the internet for a bit about this, I can give you my personal opinion: No. Kaspersky is not compromised software.

Some NSA ‘genius’, being ‘security conscious’, declared that all contractors MUST use antivirus software on their home computers and it must be a ‘good one’. So, some unwitting, NSA (SPYware) programmer, took his work home with him one day, to work from home, and his antivirus software (a good one, named Kaspersky) did its job. It scanned, detected and removed the spyware program that dimwit #2 was working on, then did what it was ordered to do (BY THE USER) and sent a sample of said software to Kaspersky for analysis and addition to detection tables.

During this episode, some enterprising Israelis had compromised a computer at Kaspersky (probably looking for inspiration for new code) and discovered this NSA code floating around Kaspersky’s system, tagged as malware. Being good allies of the USA, they informed them of what they discovered.

Now enter the ‘Fake News’ spin by the US Government. They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar and and their pants around their ankles. Now, instead of owning up to it, they did what every good spy organization does. They frame someone else. Conveniently fabricated information from ‘a friend of a friend’ (MI6), which rides the coattails of the Russians attempted interference in the 2016 US presidential election. Long story short, they declare that Kaspersky is a front for the KGB/FSB and that their software is spying on everyone.

That allows the US to turn around and declare that no one should use Kaspersky, since British Intelligence knows that there are links to Kaspersky and Russian spy organizations and that allegation is backed up by Mossad (which has conveniently ‘hacked’ Kaspersky). Which then allows more allies of the US to jump on the bandwagon saying that Kaspersky is unsafe; most likely in an attempt to destroy their reputation and run them out of business. Because Kaspersky has ‘blundered’ into sensitive US Military and NSA operations and exposed them and the intel organizations are tired of it.

All of which leaves poor Kaspersky spitroasted in the middle, being the fall guy to cover up an NSA fuck up.

Unless, the NSA, FSB, MI6, Israeli Intelligence AND Kaspersky have compromised every other single antivirus package out there, you should be able to install any other antivirus package ( that is ‘safe’) and then install Kaspersky as well. If Kaspersky attempts to install malware/spyware or it is spyware/malware, the other AV program should detect it and I have not heard of anyone stating that their AV program is classifying Kaspersky as malware, spyware or a virus.

So, if Kaspersky is compromised software, it is the stealthiest and most advanced spyware on the entire planet, due to every other AV vendor and security firm not being able to detect it OR Kaspersky has paid off every single other AV product out there to be silent about it being spyware and to have it excluded from any AV/Malware scan.

OR …

Kaspersky is NOT compromised software and they are just a victim of ‘the rumor mill’.

It just sounds like anti-Russian propaganda, the mutual slanging match between China, the US and Russia is mainly bullsh*t trying to pass the buck for security stuff ups by any of them.

Right. Same for the discussion about the Sputnik V vaccine - you need to read between the lines, and discover the geopolitical details ;-)
