In my era, it was English super groups, started with the Beatles and died with disco. My favourite band was the Yardbirds (later Led Zepperlin) but there were many others. Clannad for classy Irish style folk music and some of the American bands from around the Woodstock era. I particularly like Crosby Stills Nash & Young and own a CD of Deja Vu.

Now I see that is Enya's family, and she was singing a couple of years in the group. Enya is a genius

Nice music . I've heard it some time ago. What times those when one could sing something and capture the attention of the public wit no need to be half naked, like Miley Cyrus... I'm definitely getting older

Since Irish music was mentioned, there's really only one band that need be remembered:

The Bothy Band.

Chieftains? Yeah, good.
Planxty? Yeah, good.
Clannad? Mmm, OK.
Fairport Convention? Not Irish, but good.
(same with the Pentangle and Steeleye Span)
Boys of the Lough? Yeah, good.
De Danann? Yeah, good.

But the Bothy Band kicked major ass!
(I used to listen a lot to that music.)
32-bit code and Windows 7 foreva!

If you like real Irish[tm] look for the name Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh. (I can't pronounce it either, Irish Gaelic)

Here is a song she did years ago in English.

Plenty of others in Gaelic.

Here is another, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh - Down by the Glenside
A song about the failed Fenian uprising in the late 19th century.

I grew up listening to swedish music, rock music,  pat benatar, rush, but also heavy metal, later nightwish, which is developing heavy metal further by combine it with a opera singer
The veronicas from Oz I discovered watching movies
"revenge is sweeter than you ever where" slow love song
Lately I discovered house music, listening to djs you can both listen and/or stream from radio, streaming is limited to few weeks afterwards been aired
For example song text adapted to modern world you use computers alot
"I can't erase you", compared to older love song dated before Internet use "I can't forget you" instead
