They were also a blues-rock band, albeit more 'heavier'...  :P

Nope, they were influenced by an English band called the Yardbirds which later was renamed Led Zepperlin. Before Jimmy Page they had Eric Clapton and Peter Green as lead guitarists.

that's right. Peter Green was an excellent guitarist. If I remember well, he was later in the 60s the lead guitar player by Fleetwood Mac (Albatros, Oh Well, The Green Manalishi etc.).

May be both is right. The truth is: July 12, 1962 the Stones gave the first concert in the Marquee Club of London (today it's a branch of the Spanish Banco Santander). They played some tunes of Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Jimmy Rogers and Willie Dixon. That kind of music was not very popular in this time and without any doubt: the Stones did help to change that situation.

Anyway, Jimi Hendrix did his part, too. He was a guitar god and his dead in 1969 was tragedy.

Oh yes, we've in Europe the same phenomenon: Young people love the music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. But for me it's no wonder. The current number one radio station in Berlin plays the same 364 titles day for day over the year. More and more people can't detest that.

But I also like the music of this guy from down under: Dub FX 10/10/2008 'Society Gates'
Too bad that I have no credit card and that I hate paypal, I would like to support him and buy some of his stuff.

Maybe I will visit their concert ... It's time for me to take more part in life again. The last ten years were only work, work, work...
And the only gain were damaged spinal disks.
BTW, Toto made a lot of very good songs ...

But it's not only the kind of music Dub FX makes, it's also his way of living. He's a globetrotter, has no contract at with the music industry and sells his CDs via his own label. Free like a gipsy...
